Baccarat Guide: Rules and Hints
Baccarat is one of the most popular casino games played on the floors of casinos around the world and online. Especially popular in China, Baccarat is a game of chance with great odds, quick action, and a lot of fun! We don't know online casinos who not have baccarat at their games portfolio.
How to Play Baccarat
In Baccarat, cards are dealt to two hands, named Player and Banker. You need to correctly pick which hand will have the highest score and bet on it. Choose whether you want to bet on the Dealer, Player, Tie, or any combination of the three.
Especially for online baccarat players. Place a bet by clicking on Player, Banker, or Tie, then clicking the amount of chips you want to bet. Click on chips in the betting area to remove them. Press Deal to begin the game once your wager is placed.
Baccarat Hands Values
Cards between 2 and 9 are worth face value, Tens and face cards (Kings, Queens, and Jacks) are worth zero, and Aces are worth 1 point each. To calculate the score for each hand, add the values of all the cards in the hand and drop the ten’s digit. For example, a hand with two Sevens is valued as 7 + 7 = 14 minus the ten’s digit = 4. A hand with 3 sevens is valued as 7 + 7 + 7 = 21 minus the ten’s digit = 1. The highest score that can ever be achieved is a 9, from hands such as 4 + 5 = 9, or 10 + 9 = 19 minus the ten’s digit = 9.
Player’s Turn
The Player always goes first. The Player’s hand gets to draw a third card if the original total is between 0-5 and the bank’s total is between 0-7. If the Player’s total is greater than 5 or the bank’s total is greater than 7, the player does not draw another card. Play then proceeds to the banker.
Dealer’s Turn
If the Banker’s hand totals 7, 8 or 9, the Banker does not get another card. Banker automatically draws cards or stands based on the “house way”.
How You Win Baccarat
You win if the hand you bet on has the higher total at the end of the round. If you bet on the Player to win, you win even money. If you bet on the Banker and win, you win even money minus a 5% commission*.
If you bet on a Tie and it wins, you win nine times your wager.
*Note: The commission is 5% of the bet and is rounded up to the next quarter. For example, a minimum bet of $6 would be a commission of 50 cents. (5% of $6 = 30 cents, but since the commission is rounded up to the next 25 cents; the commission is actually 50 cents. 5% of $11 = 55 cents, which makes the actual commission 75 cents.)
Mini Baccarat
Some online casinos offer Mini Baccarat version of Baccarat game. There are no big difference between baccarat and mini baccarat.
Mini baccarat and baccarat are practically the same game except for one small detail: in mini baccarat, the dealer is always the banker, and no player ever becomes the banker. That is that, all else is similar. By playing strategy this rule is favorable because bet on player gives better odss for player.
Baccarat Historical Info
Baccarat at the beginning
The main question of baccarat history is: where are the origins of the game – in France or Italy? The creator of the game is believed to be the Italian gambler Felix Falguerein, but baccarat became extremely popular only when it came to France with the soldiers of Charles VIII in the end of the 15th century; it was France where two main baccarat variations – Chemin de Fer and Baccarat en Banque – were born and widespread all over the world later.
First, when baccarat was in Italy, it was played with tarot cards but later the 52-cards deck came to change them. Baccarat was considered to be the game of noble and rich gentlemen only, and it was believed that the middle class had no opportunity and right to play, but it was actually not true because people played baccarat in some illegal clubs anyway.
The name of baccarat game is originated from the Italian word "baccara" which means "zero" and a loss in this game.
Move to the America
It was the end of the 19th century when baccarat began its journey to America thanks to English and French citizens who lived there, but was not very popular there at that time because of another casino card game – blackjack. It was time when blackjack was really extremely popular in America and it was played everywhere there, so poor baccarat had no chance to win this struggle for popularity.
Anyway, baccarat came to Cuba, got the name Punto Banco and stayed there till the 1950's; Tommy Renzoni, a casino player and writer, brought baccarat to Las Vegas where its rebirth began! The rules and name of the game (Punto Banco) were decided to stay the same and the third popular baccarat variation – North-American baccarat - was born.
Americans liked the game very much and were so excited to play it that they began to create some new variations of baccarat; one more popular baccarat variant – Mini baccarat – was soon born in such a way. Anyway, two original baccarat games were not forgotten because Europeans were not in a hurry to accept a new baccarat game and continued playing Chemin de Fer and Baccarat en Banque in casinos. That is why today almost all casinos provide its visitors with all three baccarat variations to choose from.
